< Back to the Blog main pageIncubate - World's Most Innovative Festival?
Thursday 24th September 2009 | Posted by Eric
Having finally caught up on the sleep missed at Incubate Festival in Tilburg, I thought it was about time to reveal all.
Formerly known ZXZW, Incubate is a truly original festival. While most festivals cover one specific type of entertainment, Incubate covers it all. Be it dance, art, music or film, this festival held nothing back and as a result, it is one of the most enjoyable festivals I've ever been to. Whats great about having so many different types of entertainment on offer is that you never get bored. Anyone who's ever been to a festival knows that feeling that hits, usually about three days in, that makes you just go "I can't be assed." But not at Incubate. Tired of the music (which, for the record, ranged from folk to jazz to electronica and all the way up to black metal)? Then go see some of the big-name artists working. Tired of art? How about some contemporary dance? Or a lecture on how cultural organisations can use technology to their advantage? A film about peer-to-peer sharing and internet copyright? It's innovative ideas like this that keep the festival scene interesting. And thats not even mentioning the scores of amazing artists from all over the world who headlined all of Incubate's intimate performances, which placed black metal beside folk, electronica beside modern jazz, even pop beside poetry. You can hear some of the audio we got at Incubate in GS018, which will be released on October 12th. And my bet is that, after you've heard it, you'll be as excited about where Incubate can go next year as I am. Tilburg's saying for 2009 is "laat 't zien," which mean's "let's see." I'm certainly planning on it. |
