Hallowe'en in Wales
Monday 2nd November 2009 | Posted by Eric
Hallowe'en is by far my favourite time of year. Always has been, but I find it a bit disappointing that, at least in London, it's not celebrated to the same extent as it is in the rest of the world. This is probably the reason I jumped at the chance to head to deepest darkest Wales for the evening - Fishguard, to be precise. Truly the end of the line.

Not only was I hoping to see a few people get a little more into Hallowe'en than they do here in the big smoke, but the rather fantastic Bagpipe Whiskey, who you may remember from GS018, was playing what can be only described a Hallowe'en fright fest. Or something.

The gig was held in a cinema. It's just as well, because before Bagpipe went on stage, a rather un-PC movie from the early 70's, "Blacula," was shown. Yes, I know it seems like a joke they'd make on the Fresh Prince, but that is what the film was actually called. See evidence below.

Bagpipe's set was kicking, as you would expect from someone who uses a Fisher Price farm noise toy on stage. And of course we got some rather lovely recordings of it for your listening pleasure. Expect that in GS022.

I somehow managed to survive the massive flooding that seemed to mangle Wales during the night. To be honest, I slept through it in a hotel that was, in fact, not run by a Ukrainian gypsy as previously suspected, but instead by a lovely old lady and her dog. I think my train turned into a boat (at least it must have?), and 6 hours later I arrived back in London with cramped legs, and some mega recordings.

The things we endure for music.
