Monday 15th March 2010 | Posted by Márcio
Four days ago Glauco, one of the most brilliant Brazilians cartoonists, was shot dead along Raoni, his 25 year old son, in Osasco, near São Paulo city. Glauco was the famous creator of characters such as Dona Marta, Geraldão, Zé do Apocalipse among others. It’s already known that the murderer was a 24 year old man and the odds of this investigation, although quite interesting, are to be left off to the hard news.
São Paulo Grafitti is well known all around the globe for its quality and techniques. I am sure some of these artists were influenced by the work of cartoonists such as Glauco, Laerte and Angeli and many others.
I also make use of some of the most recent works by grafitti artists at Sumaré Road (my neighbourhood) to introduce the work of these great artists, some of them not much older than Glaucos’s son Raoni and his murderer.
São Paulo Grafitti Art is also the subject of an exhibition at Mube, Brazilian Museum for Architecture and Sculpture, which I also attended to last Saturday. R.I.P. Glauco.
